final project

My final project for this class was a psychedelic video. I used images from past artwork and created a few new pieces to complete this video. Using the images I edited in flash and created animations which were then exported into movie format. From here I used Imovie to create the actual movie, matching up music to fit the animation. I also used various features in Imovie to create the piece which you see below.

Luke Brown

The artist I chose to write about is Luke Brown... below is my essay and some of his works. Hope you like

Luke brown is a modern day visionary artist. His work shows the true depths of the imagination, the likes of which has been seen with such greats as Alex Grey, H.R. Giger, Robert Venosa and Ernst Fuchs. He resides in Canadas Elfinstone Rainforest.

Visionary Art is in a realm completely different from all other styles. The inspiration for these artists could simply come from the imagination. For many others like Luke Brown, Alex Grey and others, this inspiration comes from intense psychedelic experiences of the visual nature. Their work is a combination of living things and items from the reality of everyday life to completely made up organisms, melted, molded and melded together to create something completely different from anything you could ever dream of. This art is truely of the original blend. Where people can redraw the human figure 10 million times and still always create a similar piece, these artists create something out of nothing. That is something to be said about art itself. In my honest opinion, this style of art is the most amazing of all.

Luke Brown is not the most familiar visionary artist out there but one whos work is always of the amazing variety. His work in a large portion is done with the computer leaving great detail which causes one to stare at his work for long periods of time. According to his website Spectraleyes.com he starts with paint and digitalizes everything to further execute the design.

I hope possibly others out there find this type of work as intriguing as I do. Personally I'm completely infatuated by this style of work and hope to someday to be able to work on that level.

At the top of this page are a couple other pieces from Luke Brown which I felt stood out.

tootoonchi

I just returned from the lecture of professor Tootoonchi. She spoke on graphic design history and use in Iran. I found most interesting the culture divides and similarities shown through graphic design. I personally was not aware of anything related to graphic design in Iran, but they use their typography to their advantage, using it as the primary element of design. I found it interesting to actually see the differences in their use of the computer to aid design vs ours... Ok maybe not I almost fell asleep.

My Favorite Project

I am writing this as I get redy to come to class. I would have to say my favorite project this far would be the styrofoam model experiment. Really, at first I thought it would be extremely dull and boring but our group came up with a pretty creative idea for a movie. I didnt want to be like some of the groups we saw in new york simply bashing and destroying it with no inherent plot behind it although that part was a lot of fun haha. We came up with something pretty original and this next class we will be finishing it up. Im pretty excited to see how it looks and think I did a good job at acting in it... I really dont care what anyone thinks... I dont mind making a fool of myself for the better of the group :-P see you in class

Movie Review

Not too long ago I watched Resident Evil II. Let me start by saying it was a great movie, really brought me back to the days when I played Resident Evil religiously all the while shutting out friends and family for days at a time. to me there was nothing else like it when it came out for playstation,. A horror game with all the violence I craved as a healthy young teen. Anyways the digital effects in the movie from buildings blowing out to sound effects made everything come together. The movie really represented the game well, giving me an urge to dig out my old playstation and go at it again. Overall it was a great movie and I'm looking forward to seeing the third now that my foots in the door.

psychedelic surrealism

I have always been interested in surrealism, at at that psychedelic culture too, so maybe a year or so ago I drew these two drawings, all of which just came out of my head. I have always enjoyed art which is completely original in this light for surrealism is a one of a kind style in that what you see has never been replicated before. Traditional art holds it place but what I find so exciting about surrealism is every piece comes out one of a kind in the idea/design. So these are my favorite pieces so far...

Playing with

I did this using GIMP (gimp.org) by originally painting a small section, then reflecting this several times over... afterwhich I used the plastic wrap effect to give it a shine effect
